Volkswagen’s avant-garde gran turismo is revealed in Singapore


From the front, differentiating the Turbo from its lesser brethren are the LED main headlights of the Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS), with double-row front light modules. Viewed from the side, one would notice widened wheel arches with painted wheel arch trims, housing the unmistakable 21-inch Turbo wheels fitted as standard. Beneath the wheels sit 6-piston (6-piston front; 4-piston rear) calipers clamping onto tungsten carbide coated steel discs, as part of the Porsche Surface Coated Brake (PSCB) system.

Besides the attention-grabbing exterior, the other key point of the 720S is the new M480T engine. The 4.0-litre engine, which has 41 percent new parts (namely piston, crankcase and turbochargers) content compared to the 3.8-litre engine, generates 710 bhp (720 PS) and 770 Nm of torque. Paired to a 7-speed SSG dual-clutch 'box, standstill to 100 km/h takes 2.9 seconds; 0-200 km/h is executed in 7.8 seconds. The car’s maximum speed is rated at 341 km/h.

The design of the Levante features clear associations with the Maserati brand: An aggressive front introduces new, tapered headlights separated into two elements, with the upper headlight unit connected to the radiator grille. Maserati's design signature is clearly visible on the sides: the three iconic air vents on the front wings, the trapezoidal C-pillar with the 'Saetta' logo and the large, frameless door windows. No official release of news on the Volkswagen GTI just yet, but its diesel twin has made an entrance at the party already, with strong overtones and nuances of what we've seen on the GTI concept snaps


Additionally, the Carrera 2 outputs lower CO2 emission, and now thanks to the synergy with the Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 tyres, the CO2 ratings get even lower. This is due to the technology driven by reduced tyre weight and a new ‘high surface’ silica grade that contributes to reduced heat generation (lowering the rolling resistance).

Despite a year's delay, the Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show (KLIMS) 2010 boasts record-breaking visitor numbers.


Whilst there are increasingly more ‘road safety campaigns’ being developed for Malaysian drivers, Innovate Solutions is out to educate and increase road safety awareness amongst youngsters. Since KLIMS’10 began on 3rd December, thousands of families have been able to actively participate in various informative activities which will be conducted until 12th December 2010. Innovate Solutions (booth 1B10, located at Hall 1) will be providing visiting children with a hands-on demonstration on ideal road safety practices for pedestrians and be given the opportunity to enhance their roadside manners that can prevent them becoming or causing another road-side tragedy.
